Christian Steinbach

Professor University of Greifswald

Prof. Dr. Christian Steinebach is Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Greifswald, Germany. His research focuses on induced proximity modalities, including targeted protein degradation (PROTACs), molecular glues, and transcriptional chemical inducers of proximity (TCIPs), with the goal of developing innovative therapeutic strategies for challenging disease targets. Since establishing his independent research program, he has contributed to the design of novel degrader chemistries, E3 ligase ligands, and proximity-inducing compounds, authoring over 40 peer-reviewed publications, several patent applications, and attracting competitive third-party funding. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Bayer Pharmaceuticals Doctoral Thesis Award, the 2020 Best PhD Thesis Award sponsored by Molecules, and the 2026 Ciulli & Winter Award for the European Induced Proximity Innovator of the Year. He is particularly interested in translating induced proximity principles into new therapeutic concepts for cancer and other diseases.
